What Are
Fillers?

What Are Fillers?What Are Fillers?

Fillers, in this context, are several injectable substances that are FDA approved. They fall into several classes or categories, for instance, some are temporary and some are considered semi-permanent. Dr. Fedok in general uses a small number of injectable filling substances – hyaluronic fillers, autogenous fat and poly – L – lactic acid. The hyaluronic fillers include the Restylane and Juvederm lines of fillers. The most commonly used poly – L – lactic acid filler is Sculptra. Autogenous fat is derived from the patient.

The use of these groups of fillers allows Dr. Fedok to provide augmentation to a variety of locations of a patient’s anatomy. They are used primarily in the face but can be used in other areas of anatomy. In the face, Dr. Fedok will use the hyaluronic fillers regionally to augment such areas as the lips, the cheeks, the jawline, the intraoral rim, the brow, and other areas of the face. Dr. Fedok uses Sculptra as a global filler in the face especially when the patient has medical situations where their own autogenous fat will be less successful. Sculptra can also be used in other areas of the body and has been used with considerable success in the buttock, especially to correct irregularities, or to create a subtle augmentation.

In terms of specific criteria, it’s essential to have realistic expectations about what fillers can do for your appearance. While they can certainly help to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, fillers can’t necessarily fix every aspect of your skin. It’s also critical to be in good overall health, with no major medical issues like autoimmune disorders or allergies that could complicate the treatment. You also need to have enough facial volume to support the filler injection.

Recovery

The recovery process for fillers is relatively short and easy! Immediately after the procedure, patients may experience slight redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site, which usually subsides within a day or two. We recommend that for the first 24 hours following the treatment, patients avoid physical activity and limit sun exposure.
